TRC members, family and colleagues take on the Ultra Challenge Halloween 10K in London, with the Consortium matching funds raised pound for pound as part of #KickCancerThon.

The Travel Retail Consortium (TRC) has raised an impressive £12,774 for Macmillan Cancer Support, following a Halloween-themed 10km fundraising walk in London on Saturday 31 October.

TRC members, together with family and work colleagues, donned their spookiest costumes to take part in the Ultra Challenge Halloween Walk, raising £5,267 as a team. A further £1,120 was raised by industry colleague, good friend and a past chair of the TRC, Richard Thorpe, bringing the initial fundraising total to £6,387.

Demonstrating its commitment to the cause, the TRC has pledged to match the entire amount raised, pound for pound, adding a further £6,387 to the fundraising pot and bringing the grand total to £12,774 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The initiative forms part of #KickCancerThon, the fundraising campaign initiated by the late Sinead Moodie, supporting cancer charities and the vital work they undertake to help people affected by cancer.

The Halloween walk brought together colleagues from across the travel retail community for an afternoon of fundraising, camaraderie and plenty of Halloween spirit. The team’s imaginative costumes certainly helped create a memorable occasion, with participants successfully completing the 10km challenge in support of this important cause.

Sharon Edwards-Smith, Chair of the Travel Retail Consortium, commented: “We are absolutely delighted with the amount raised and incredibly proud of everyone who took part, donated and supported the initiative. It was fantastic to see TRC members, family and colleagues come together, embrace the Halloween spirit and get behind such a worthwhile cause. A special thank you to Richard Thorpe for his generous additional contribution. The TRC’s decision to match the funds raised means we have been able to double the impact of everyone’s efforts, and we are thrilled to be contributing £12,774 to Macmillan Cancer Support.”

The TRC would like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who participated, donated, helped organise the event or supported the team along the way. The fundraising also highlights the strength of the travel retail community when it comes together to support causes that make a real difference.
