Ian Macleod Distillers has unveiled a new, limited edition, London Dry gin for its multi award-winning Edinburgh Gin, available exclusively at its boutique in the World Duty Free store at Edinburgh Airport.

Edinburgh Gin launches Created for global leading travel experience player, Avolta, The Tropics is the second release in the Edinburgh Gin Traveller’s Collection series which was launched last year, a global journey taking inspiration from locations and signature flavours around the world. The Meadows was the first in this special journey and was inspired by the famous green space in the city of Edinburgh itself. The Tropics is inspired by the abundance of vibrant botanicals in the tropics, transporting drinkers to a sultry world of lush rainforests and tropical taste sensations.

Edinburgh Gin Head Distiller, David Wilkinson says: “On the nose, The Tropics has coconutty aromas from the pandan leaf, complimented by citrus notes of lemongrass and Kaffir lime leaf. The gin has a creamy mouthfeel, with initial sweet flavours from the pandan leaves, balanced by zesty notes of lime. Savoury flavours of green peppercorns and bird’s eye chilli give the gin a tingling after-taste.”

This new expression complements the existing World Duty Free range of Edinburgh Gin full-strength gins: The Classic, Seaside, Rhubarb & Ginger, Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn and Avolta-exclusive Key Lime & Ginger, alongside the three, highly popular gin liqueurs: Rhubarb & Ginger, Raspberry and Elderflower.

David de Miguel, Global Category Head of Liquor for Avolta says: “The Edinburgh Gin boutique is a major attraction in our store at Edinburgh Airport and is a huge success. The Meadows sold out faster than we expected and we are now looking at The Tropics to perform at the same level. We are always looking to surprise and delight our customers with something unique, new and exciting, so we’re proud to offer this second exclusive as part of the Edinburgh Gin Traveller’s Exclusive Collection series.”

The Tropics has been created in the heart of Edinburgh at Edinburgh Gin’s new state-of-the-art distillery and visitor centre at The Arches, just off the Royal Mile.

In 2024, annual passenger numbers at Edinburgh Airport reached a record 15.78 million.

We are delighted to introduce The Tropics at the Edinburgh Airport Edinburgh Gin boutique,” says Ian Macleod Distillers Head of Global Travel Retail, William Ovens. “Our Master Distiller has really pushed the boundaries with this exotic yet highly accessible flavour profile; those who are lucky enough to have tasted it already have been hugely impressed.

*100% renewable energy means that a percentage of the supply is from renewable energy such as solar and wind, with the balance coming from the grid. The carbon emissions from grid generation are neutralised by buying carbon credits (REGOs). It would not be correct to claim this is net zero electricity hence our statement that we are carbon neutral for our operational emissions.
