On Tuesday March 1st the Travel Retail Consortium (TRC) held its first face to face AGM since 2019 at the offices of member Accolade Wines. Aside from the AGM, the meeting was important as it included the presentation of a cheque to the Consortium’s nominated charity: Chestnut Tree House, which focuses on end-of-life care for children and gives much needed support to families.

Despite two desperate years with much restricted activities, the TRC nevertheless raised £4,200 for Chestnut Tree House, incredibly the largest amount ever raised by the Consortium `’It’s been a very difficult time for everyone but we’ve managed to keep momentum going through Zoom meetings, enabling a continued forum for discussion and vital sharing of ideas and news,” says TRC chairman Jonathan Corbett, who presented the cheque to Alison Taylor from the Chestnut Tree House, along with Martyn Westbury.

Historically the Chairman of the TRC nominates the charity supported and Corbett chose Chestnut Tree House “because they do an amazing job in difficult circumstances. As a charity it focuses on end-of-life care for children but realises that the families of these children need care too. As a charity it has truly touched my heart and I am proud of the amount we have raised thanks to our members and customers”.

Alison and colleagues from the charity attended the last TRC customer event held at Tylney Hall back in November 2019, giving a presentation and heart moving explanation of its work. “From the many comments received we know that those who attended were in awe of that work,” says Martyn Westbury. “So much so that when Dufry’s Phrederika Miltiadou won a Nestlé hamper in

The MoodieDavitt draw last December, she asked if it could be donated to the charity. Thank you Phrederika what a lovely gesture.”

The TRC is now considering a new charity as its focus for 2022 and this will be announced in due course.
